SINGAPORE - After taking the Community Chest to new heights in her 14 years as chairman, Ms Jennie Chua will step down next month.
But this will not be the end of her charity work.
"I'll be looking into smaller, less-known causes, they may need some guidance," said the veteran hotelier who once helmed the iconic Raffles Hotel and has now gone into the fast-food business.
She will be succeeded by National Council of Social Service (NCSS) board vice-president Phillip Tan, who is the group finance director at CityState Capital Asia.
Ms Chua, 69, one of the best-known faces in charity circles here, has been chairman of ComChest since 2000.
Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing yesterday called her an inspiration to others, and praised her work in helping Singapore become a more caring society.
