Con man uses name of Johor royalty to swindle 50

JOHOR BARU - A con man has been going around using the name of Johor royalty to cheat at least 50 victims in bogus business deals statewide.

The suspect has so far conned the victims out of more than RM1 million (S$340,000) in the last few years, Johor Public Complaints Centre chief Syed Othman Syed Abdullah said.

The suspect usually introduces himself as Datuk Z and claims that he is a business associate of the Tunku Mahkota and Tunku Bendahara, he said at a press conference Tuesday for about a dozen of the victims.

Many of the victims alleged that nothing has been done despite lodging police reports as they claim that the suspect is "well connected".

Syed Othman expressed hope that police will look into the matter seriously.

He urged other victims to come forward and contact him at 013-751-1818.
