Confession leads cops to skeleton

JOHOR BARU - Police discovered the skeletal remains of a man buried behind a house following the confession of a suspect detained in Muar.

The suspect, in his 30s, was detained on May 18 for drug offences and admitted to his involvement in killing the man at a house in Bakri several months ago.

Johor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Rusli Ahmad, who confirmed the case, said the suspect brought the police to the scene where he and an accomplice had buried the victim.

"The police together with the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital pathology expert found the skeletal remains of a man, as well as pieces of cloth used to wrap the body.

"We believe that the victim was a man reported missing by his stepbrother early this year," he told reporters at the Johor Baru (North) district police headquarters here yesterday.

SCDP Rusli said police had also identified the accomplice, who is currently in prison for other criminal cases.

He said following the arrest of the suspect, police had also solved several cases, including a missing person report, fighting under Section 148 of the Penal Code in Muar and vehicle theft.

He added that investigations were ongoing to find out the motive for the murder.
