Construction worker dies, 2 others injured after platform collapse

SINGAPORE - A construction worker in his 20s died when a 3rd-storey platform he was working on collapsed at a construction site at Pioneer Turn, reported local news agencies.

The accident happened on Wednesday at construction firm M+W Singapore's worksite at Pioneer Turn, near Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim, reported The Straits Times (ST).

Two others, who were on the platform at that time the scaffolding gave way, were also injured.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said in a statement that the 3 workers fell from a platform which had been installed over a stairwell.

A Chinese national was pronounced dead by paramedics, while the other 2 workers from China and Bangladesh were taken to hospital, said MOM.

SCDF was alerted to the incident at about 9.40am and sent a fire engine, a Red Rhino, a fire bike and two ambulances to the scene, reported Channel News Asia.

MOM is investigating the matter and has ordered all work to stop at the site, said the ST report.
