KUALA LUMPUR - A police constable was among three men who pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to committing gang robbery for a smartphone.
Kons Md Harris Abd Rashid, 36, Syabas contractor Azly Abd Aziz, 34, and private company worker Rozali Ahmad, 30, were accused of robbing college student Farith Rayyen Akop, 19, of an iPhone 5.
They are said to have committed the offence with three others still at large at a hotel room in Cheras at about midnight on Christmas Day.
The men now face up to 20 years in jail and whipping under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
DPP Nabilah Ahmad Poad said that should the court use its discretion to grant bail to Kons Md Harris, it should be RM10,000 (S$3,800) or more because such crimes were getting rampant.
"The accused is a police officer, yet he committed the offence," she said.
Sessions judge Ahmad Bache allowed bail at RM7,000 for each accused and set Feb 4 for mention.
