Cop jailed 15 months for sex with girl, 13

As a corporal in the police force, he was supposed to uphold the law and be on his best behaviour.

Instead, Faisal Amry Abdul Rahman, 26, had sex with an underage girl multiple times when he was still an officer with the Traffic Police.

Yesterday, he was sentenced to 15 months in jail, after pleading guilty to two counts of having sex with a teenager, then 13. We are not naming her because she is a minor.

Four charges for similar offences involving the same youngster and one count of trespassing into a women's toilet were taken into consideration during sentencing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eunice Lau said that Faisal had befriended the girl in late 2011, through iMesh, a file-sharing client with social networking features.

She told him she was a 13-year-old Secondary One student. He told her he was in his 20s.

On Jan 16, 2012 at about 2pm, he picked her up near her school in his sister's car and drove to Choa Chu Kang Chinese cemetery, where she performed oral sex on him.

She was dressed in her school uniform at the time.

After that, they had unprotected sex before he drove her home.

The pair met again 10 days later. Faisal picked her up using his scooter and took her to Jurong Hill Park that afternoon.

There, they headed to the women's toilet at the carpark, where she performed oral sex on him.

Later that year, the girl's family members found out that she had been having sex. The girl made a police report on May 7, 2012.

In mitigation, Faisal's lawyer, Ms N. Sudha Nair, said he was supposed to get married in June, but his fiancee called off the wedding after he was charged in May.

Pleading for a jail sentence that "is not crushing", she stressed that her client is very remorseful and had "lost much as a result of his foolish actions".

Responding to queries from The New Paper, a police spokesman said that Faisal, who joined the force in Oct 2010, has been interdicted (a technical term for suspended) from service since May 19.

He added: "Following his conviction in court...we will commence disciplinary proceedings under the Police Force Act against (him)." For each count of having sex with the underage girl, he could have been jailed up to 10 years and fined.
