Cops recover decomposing body in apartment

GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia - A foul smell led the police to the decomposing body of a 53-year-old man whom police believe had been dead for about a week.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said residents of the apartment block called the police after detecting the stench coming from the 11th floor unit at 1.40pm yesterday.

"We had to break into the unit as it was locked from the inside. The body was later identified as that of Wong Boon Chuang, who lived alone and had not been seen in a week.

"Foul play has been ruled out but a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death," he added.

Meanwhile, the body of a woman was found at another flat in Lintang Kampung Rawa Satu, Jelutong, on the same day.

Yeoh Eng Beng, 68, was found by her daughter on the 12th floor unit at 10.55am.

Police have classified the case as sudden death after foul play was ruled out.
