 Cops seize drugs worth $18,300 after ambush

IPOH: Police seized drugs worth more than RM50,000 (S$18,300) and detained a 29-year-old man after searching a car and a house near here.

Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Yap Toon Khuan said a team of officers led by ASP Su That Frat Kong arrested the man at Taman Pusing Murni in Pusing near here last Friday.

"We recovered 914gm of heroin from his car while another 115gm of the drug was found at the house for a total value of RM51,450.

"We also seized a car worth RM50,000 and a RM12,000 gold chain during the raid," ACP Yap told reporters yesterday.

He said the suspect, who has a criminal record, was waiting outside a car probably to deliver the heroin when he was ambushed by police.

"The drugs were being distributed at Meng­lembu, Batu Gajah and Pusing areas," said ACP Yap, adding that the suspect would be remanded until Thursday.

The case is classified as trafficking in dangerous drugs, and the suspect was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
