SINGAPORE - A fire broke out on Saturday evening along the fifth-floor corridor of Block 672D in Punggol and residents gathered to carry pails of water to help put it out.

Some of them told Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao they could not make use of a hose reel there as it was locked.

It is unclear why or how it was locked.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for help at 5.39pm.

The flames were finally put out by the fire fighters with buckets of water.

Items along the corridor were burnt.
