Couple investigated for filing false police report as excuse from work

SINGAPORE - Police are carrying out investigations against a couple for allegedly filing a false police report to get a day off from work.

At about 11.25am on Wednesday, a 22-year-old woman lodged a police report stating that an unknown dark-skinned man riding a bicycle had snatched her handbag earlier in the day along Sembawang Drive. She claimed that her bag contained an EZ-link card and other personal items.

It was subsequently established that the woman made the false report upon the instigation of her 27-year-old boyfriend, said police in a statement. She had used up her leave entitlement, and lodged the report as an excuse to be absent from work.

If convicted, the couple face up to a year in jail, a maximum fine of $5,000 or both.
