Cranky commuters in the news

1. Gongfu uncle showdown
Posted on Stomp on Sept 24

An elderly, topless man challenged public-transport-operator staff to a fight worthy of a martial-arts movie at the Tampines Bus Interchange.

Taking on his adversaries, the man whipped his red shirt around, kicked out and threw punches into the air.

The scuffle - captured on video - was all for show and no real blows were exchanged.

2. MRT pole-leaning fiasco
Posted on Stomp on Sept 10

A pet peeve of commuters is when a person leans against a grab pole, preventing others from holding on to it.

This proved to be the source of ire that resulted in a shouting match between an offending "pole-leaner" and another commuter.

3. Spat over seats
Reported in The New Paper on May 29

Priority seats on the MRT should be reserved for the elderly - that is what an insistent senior in an online video argued.

The old man got into a heated debate with a younger man in a priority seat, after the former declined an adjacent seat offered to him by a national serviceman.

The bickering parties refused to back down, with vulgarities and accusations heard in the clip.

The argument later escalated and the enraged younger man ended up spitting on the old man.
