MALACCA - A cross-dresser was fined RM1,700 (S$660) by a magistrate's court here for soliciting money from a client in return for sexual services.

V.B. Vaishnavi, who came to court in a pink t-shirt and black pants, pleaded guilty before magistrate Norina Maludin to the offence under Section 372B of the Penal Code for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.

The 41-year-old, who is from Setapak, committed the offence at a budget hotel in Jalan Munshi Abdullah at 4.30pm on Nov 7.

Based on the statement of facts, Vaishnavi was found inside a room at the hotel in women's clothing and in the company of a man during a vice raid carried out by police that day.

Policemen also came across eight packets of condoms, a log book and RM2,112 in his possession.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Shazwani Ishak asked the court for a stiffer punishment as the state's tourism reputation could be smeared due to such immoral activities.

In mitigation, Vaishnavi's counsel Sheikh Ikhzan Sheikh Salleh said his client was remorseful and had pleaded guilty to the offence.
