Current police commissioner Ng Joo Hee to head PUB on Jan 2015

SINGAPORE - Current police commissioner Mr Ng Joo Hee will be appointed Chief Executive of the Public Utilities Board (PUB) from Jan 6, 2015, while current Deputy Commissioner of Investigations and Intelligence, Mr Hoong Wee Teck will take over Mr Ng on the same date.

A recipient of the SPF Overseas Scholarship, Mr Ng, 48, has served in MHA for 29 years, and helmed the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for nearly five years.

During Mr Ng's term as Commissioner, the crime rate in Singapore reached a 30-year low in 2013.

Mr Ng, who is also an alumni from the University of Oxford, Nanyang Technological University, and Harvard University, will hold the concurrent appointment of Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) in the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR).

According to statements from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and MEWR, Mr Ng will take over Mr Chew Men Leong, who stepped down as Chief Executive of PUB on Sep 30.

Mr Chew, who is now the Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority, spearheaded PUB's enhancement of flood protection for Singapore, and water supply projects.

"During his tenure, PUB won several awards including the triple honours at International Water Association 2014 Regional Project Innovation Awards and the UN-Water Award for its NEWater outreach programme," MEWR said.
