Customised teaching and learning via new website

SINGAPORE - The new integrated online learning space to be rolled out by the Ministry of Education (MOE) will aid teachers in providing customised teaching, to cater to students with different learning needs.

In response to My Paper's inquiries, MOE revealed that teachers will be able to select suitable resources from a central pool of learning materials, which they can then "customise to meet their students' learning needs".

"Teachers will also have the flexibility to develop learning packages and plan how the resources will be used during lessons," said MOE in an e-mail reply late last week.

Plans for the online learning space - which will be provided free to those studying in all primary and secondary schools by 2016 - were announced on Wednesday at the MOE's Work Plan Seminar.

The online portal will house all MOE-produced, -curated and -procured online learning resources, which will be accessible to teachers and students.

This initiative builds on efforts by the ministry to harness information and communications technology to facilitate and encourage student-teacher communication.

MOE said the move is also to allow students to "share views, give comments and seek the help of their teachers on an online platform without fear of embarrassment".

It promotes self-directed learning as well, allowing students to "learn at their own pace outside of formal curriculum time", MOE added.
