Daughter proud of daddy's daring

SINGAPORE - When she found out that her father had saved a couple from a burning car, her first reaction was to worry for his safety.

Ms Nedra Lim, 19, had been lazing around at home when she received a message from her father on her family's Whatsapp group chat on Friday.

It was accompanied by pictures of an accident at the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE), and her father Mr Lim Hong Kia, 53, wrote: "Accident at BKE, car burnt down, managed to pull out a couple. My hair was burnt."

Shocked by the message, she replied to get more details but when she did not hear from him for half an hour, Ms Lim was worried if her father was involved in the accident.

Ms Lim, the younger of Mr Lim's two daughters, asked herself: "What did he mean when he said he managed to pull out a couple? Was he badly injured?"

It was only when her father reached home from the accident, about half an hour after his message, that she found out what a hero her father had been and that he was relatively fine.

Her father and a truck driver Mr Yang Zhen Jun, 44, had rescued a couple from a burning car after it was involved in a collision with Mr Yang's truck on the BKE.

Ms Lim said: "At first, I was so worried if he had suffered any injuries from the rescue.

"It is usual for him to do a lot of heavy lifting and hard work on his job, but rescuing anyone was something someone of my father's age would not usually do.

"But knowing him, it is something he would definitely do without a care for his safety.

Despite the detailed account from her father, it was only when Ms Lim saw the video of the fire on TNP's Youtube page later that evening that she was shocked by the scale of it and the danger her father faced.

As of yesterday evening, the video had more than 67,000 views.
