Dead body found near park in Punggol Road

The body of a 46-year-old man was found in a forest patch near Punggol Waterway Park yesterday morning.

When asked, the police confirmed that they received a call at about 8.40am requesting assistance at a place in Punggol Road.

When the police officers arrived, the man was found lying motionless. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

The police are currently investigating the matter.

According to Chinese evening daily Shin Min Daily News, the body was located in a patch of forest in the area.

The vegetation is reportedly so dense that people cannot see into the forest clearly from the road.

A cleaner who works in the area told Shin Min that many people go to the Punggol park as early as 5am every day for walks and to exercise, but the forested areas are relatively deserted as people have no reason to venture into them.

More than 10 people believed to be the dead man's friends and family showed up later in the morning at the scene yesterday, but they declined to speak to the media, said Shin Min.
