BUTTERWORTH - A 31-year-old debt collector was gunned down while riding his motorcycle in Taman Carissa Villa, Mak Mandin, near here.
The victim, identified as Goh Wooi Loon, was found in a pool of blood in an alley behind the shop lots there.
It is believed that the assailant had tailed Goh, who is from Taman Bagan Ajam, before shooting him.
North Seberang Prai police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said police were informed of the incident after the body was found at about 7.20pm yesterday.
"The victim was riding his motorcycle and was believed to have been chased by the assailant.
"The victim had no criminal record but we will check his background.
"Investigations are ongoing and the case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
Meanwhile, a security guard who was manning the entrance of a residential neighbourhood nearby said he heard three gunshots.
"There were three loud bangs, and I thought it was the council shooting crows or dogs, but it turned out to be a murder," he said.
