Dentures, wedding rings dropped in toilet bowls

SINGAPORE - It's still a mystery to his family and it appears only Mr Mohd Ani Mohd knows what he dropped into the drainpipe.

But plumbers tell The New Paper they have found and fished strange things out of drainpipes and toilet bowls. These include clothing items and the occasional wedding ring

"I've seen a toilet clogged with several luo han fish," said one of them, from NPN Engineering.

Mr Woon, who declined to give his full name, has been in the plumbing business for more than 10 years.

"I think the man threw the fish in a religious practice," he said.

Often, the toilets are clogged with clumps of hair or stained toilet paper.

Mr Woon said he gets unusual items about twice a month.

He has retrieved underwear and children's toys from toilet bowls.

FLUSHED

Such items come out when he tries to unclog the pipes.

When they flush out the pipes, plumbers said they have also found dentures, soap bottles, plastic balls, and even hats.

But finding and retrieving a small item can be much harder.

Like trying to get to that wedding ring that slipped off at the wrong time.

"If the wedding ring is already flushed down, it's quite difficult for us to retrieve it. If not, getting it back is quite simple," said a representative from Ti Ti Kang Plumbing.

The owner of IDO Electrical & Plumbing said it can involve a lot of work.

Said the plumber with more than 30 years of experience, who wanted to be known only as Dave: "We usually remove the toilet bowl and the process takes up to two hours, but it is not difficult."

But that's if the toilet has not been flushed.

What if it has?

Then, said Dave, getting the ring back may just be a pipe dream.
