Detainee uses toilet break to flee

SEREMBAN - A 39-year-old man being transferred to the Simpang Renggam detention centre escaped from a police van on Sunday after telling his escorts that he needed a toilet break.

The man, detained for drug offences on July 4, was about to be let out of the van at the Setul toll plaza when a red Proton Satria rammed into the rear of the police vehicle.

The handcuffed detainee, known by the nickname "Taliban", shouldered his way out and jumped into the Satria, which then sped off.

A police spokesman said Taliban was being transferred from the Nilai police headquarters by two policemen at the time of the incident at 8.10am.

He said Taliban, who is from Seremban, told the policemen he needed to defecate after the police van passed the Mantin toll plaza and entered the Lekas highway.
