SEREMBAN - A 40-year-old mother charged with two counts of deliberately neglecting her 15-year-old mentally challenged son who was found living in a flat in Nilai on June 20 changed her plea to guilty Wednesday.

Clad in a light purple tudung and attire, Lolanopita, who was accompanied by an unidentified woman nodded her head and pleaded guilty as soon as the interpreter finished reading the two charges.

For the first charge, Lolanopita was accused of deliberately neglecting Muhammad Firdaus Dullah between January and June 21 in a room of a flat in Taman Semarak in Nilai, which could have caused him physical and emotional harm.

She was charged under section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and if found guilty, can be fined up to RM20,000 (S$7,750) of jailed up to 10 years or both.

For this, she was charged under section 33(c) of the same Act, which provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or jailed not exceeding two years or both upon conviction.

Judge Kamarudin Kamsun fixed Nov 17 for sentencing.
