Doctors featured in Steinway Gallery's musical showcase

DOCTORS IN RECITAL

The Steinway Gallery Singapore is presenting a showcase featuring doctors who have a passion for music. The pieces, played on Steinway pianos, will be presented by Dr Chang Tou Liang, who is also Life!'s classical music reviewer, Dr Au Kah Kay and Dr Lin Xiu Min. All three are family physicians in private practice. They will be accompanied by violinist Dr Ronald Ling, a medically trained investor and healthcare adviser, and professional cellist Brandon Ang. {SEE CORRECTION ABOVE} They will be performing musical pieces by Bach and Chopin.

BATAK HOUSES OF NORTHERN SUMATRA

Traditional Toba and Karo Batak houses can still be found in the villages around Lake Toba in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Find out the differences between these two types of dwellings at a talk by Lee Chee Kien, an architectural historian and registered architect in Singapore.

This talk is held in conjunction with the exhibition Beginning Of Becoming: Batak Sculpture From Northern Sumatra, which is on at the Asian Civilisations Museum from now till June 1.

LIFE IN MONOCHROME

This exhibition features the works of 43- year-old Filipino photographer Bubuy Balangue. They capture poignant moments such as a scene on the subway platform or a person walking on the street. The photos focus on finding beauty in the ordinary.

RAINBOW VOICES EXHIBITION

The Singapore Association of Mental Health and The Arts House are jointly presenting Rainbow Voices, featuring poetry and paintings by beneficiaries of the association.

The poetry, penned by patients with mental illness, offer an insight to their thoughts and struggles. The participants worked with poet Cryil Wong, who guided them to produce pieces that range from emotional to surreal.
