Drug addict flees with iPad only to be stopped by crowd
The snatch thief was caught by the public at Donggongon town in Penampang.

KOTA KINABALU - A drug addict's joy after robbing a handphone trader his iPad was short-lived as he was apprehended by bystanders moments later at the Buhavan Square in Penampang near here.

The 40-year-old illegal immigrant was apprehended when the trader shouted for help as soon as he was robbed, prompting bystanders to chase and catch the suspect in the 11am incident on Thursday.

They seized the items he robbed before tying him up while waiting for the police to arrive.

It was understood that the suspect had entered his victim's premise acting as a customer and has asked to have a look at the iPad on sale before fleeing with it.

Penampang district police chief Supt Ratan Singh said the man has been detained and will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

"No documents were found on this man so far," he said.
