JOHOR BARU - A hearse parked outside the Tanjung Langsat crocodile sanctuary in Pasir Gudang was driven away by a drug addict, who was caught a few kilometres away.
There was no body in the hearse, which belonged to the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council, in the incident on Saturday.
Council workers were cleaning the pond in the sanctuary at around 2.30pm when the man trespassed into the area, got into the van and drove off.
It is learnt that the driver of the van had left the key in the vehicle.
"Our staff tried to chase the man, but he managed to drive away.
"We immediately called the police for assistance," said the council in a statement yesterday.
Both the police and the council's enforcement unit managed to catch up with the van at around 3.45pm in Taman Rinting, which is a few kilometres from the sanctuary, and detained the man.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Salleh confirmed the case, adding that the man, in his 20s, had tested positive for drugs.
