KULAIJAYA - Police are searching for two criminals after a shootout with two of their accomplices at an oil palm estate here.
The two suspects believed to be foreigners were killed in the shootout at about 3.45am yesterday, about 500m from Bandar Putra Kulai. Johor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Rusli Ahmad said the two criminals managed to escape into the nearby jungle after their friends were shot.
"Our men were patrolling the area when they saw the four men behaving suspiciously in a car. They tried to escape by firing at our men," he said yesterday.
SDCP Rusli said police discovered a Proton Perdana reported stolen in December last year, a rifle, a bullet, a sales receipt for gold jewellery worth RM2,000, a mobile phone, a camera and a laptop.
He said the two deceased did not possess any identification papers.
Initial investigations showed that the gang was involved in 17 robbery cases in Pontian and Kulaijaya.
