Dutch tourist killed in Colombia 'boat robbery'

BOGOTA - Police are investigating after a Dutch woman touring Colombia with her husband was found dead on their sailing boat off the coast at the weekend, calling it "unusual."

Durdana Bruije was found dead Saturday on the "Lazy Duck" in the archipelago of Rosario, just one hour by boat from the coastal city of Cartagena.

Her husband, Petrus Hedirikus, 65, said the boat "was approached by six armed men, five hooded, who robbed and killed his wife," Captain Jorge Herrera, of the coastguard, told AFP.

They made off with 200,000 pesos ($65) and Hedirikus said he then took the body of his wife by boat to Cartagena, where he went to police headquarters.

"This is very unusual," said Herrera, adding that investigators were trying to "establish what really happened."

According to local media, Hedirikus said he was in the bathroom at the time of the attack.
