Ease flat purchase policy for singles

SINGAPORE - I am thrilled to know that singles can now purchase two-room Build-to-Order (BTO) flats.

I have been applying for such a flat since July last year but have been unsuccessful.

Getting a new flat in a popular location through computer balloting is almost like winning a lottery.

In this regard, the balloting system may not be fair to those who are genuinely in need of housing.

For applicants with unfavourable queue numbers, choosing an ideal unit seems impossible. Due to high demand, many are willing to take up units on low floors, with poor views, or next to the rubbish chute.

As singles continue to vie for two-room BTO flats in non-mature estates, the HDB should allow them to purchase such flats in mature estates as well since demand is so high.
