An empty seat at this year's NDP to remember Mr Lee Kuan Yew

SINGAPORE - This year's National Day Parade (NDP) will have a tribute segment dedicated to the life and accomplishments of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen said in a Facebook post today.

Mr Lee, Singapore's first prime minister, died on March 23 at the age of 91.

"All of us wished that Mr Lee could be here to celebrate NDP 2015 with all Singaporeans. It would have made it so special, the culmination of his life's work. But it was not to be," Dr Ng said.

"We have to move on, as Mr Lee would want us to," he added.

NDP 2015 will, therefore, still be held in a celebratory tone to commemorate Singapore's progress and achievements, Dr Ng said.

He also said that Mr Lee's seat will be left empty during the parade as a mark of remembrance.
