ALOR SETAR - A former police constable with a record of drug-related offences has been slashed and stabbed to death.
Ang Kean Eng, 32, was believed to have been involved in a heated argument with a group of men in a video games outlet in Lorong Pelangi, near Taman Anggerik here.
Witnesses said Ang was stabbed by the men after running out of the outlet at 1.30am yesterday.
A police team rushed to the scene upon being informed of the incident but found him dead in the middle of the road fronting the shoplots.
There were stab wounds in his abdomen, chest and forehead.
Kedah police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Zamri Yahya said Ang, from Taman Indah here, was attacked with sharp objects.
He said a 50cm-long sharp object, a car key and a backpack were found near his body.
He said police had obtained the registration number of the car in which the assailants escaped and were tracing its owner.
"We are checking the CCTV recordings installed at one or two shoplots near the scene to help us identify the men," SDCP Zamri said, adding that the case had been classified as murder.
Kedah CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Nashir Ya said Ang had a record for several drug-related offences which were committed after he left the force.
"It is believed that the incident is related to drug dealings," he added.
It is learnt that Ang, who was still single, was in the police force from 2004 to 2010.
