Ex-relief teacher, 76, charged with molesting pupil in school

A 76-year-old former relief teacher was in court yesterday to face two charges of molesting a pupil at a primary school in Hougang.

Bok Tin Fok is alleged to have used criminal force on a girl below 14 years of age by kissing the then eight-year-old on her lips. The alleged offence was committed during school hours outside the school hall, along a corridor near the staff room, on one occasion in 2013.

The following year, he allegedly committed a similar offence outside the school library when the girl was nine years old.

Bok's lawyer Edmond Pereira told the court that he would be making representations and applying for a medical report. He said his client, who was accompanied by family members, is likely to plead guilty.

Bok is out on $10,000 bail. His passport has been impounded and he was told not to contact the alleged victim. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to five years and a fine for molesting a person under the age of 14. A pre-trial conference is scheduled on Aug 3.
