Expect 'surprise elements' at SEA Games opening ceremony: Lawrence Wong

SINGAPORE - Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong has divulged a few details on what the opening ceremony for the SEA Games on June 5 is going to be like.

On top of the usual segments, such as an athletes parade and fireworks, there will be "surprise elements" involving our former athletes and some special guests, Mr Wong said. He was responding to questions about the SEA Games in a video answer posted on his Facebook page today.

He stopped short of revealing more: "I shouldn't say anymore because I really want to keep some things under wraps so that there'll be anticipation and surprise."

But he was generous enough to include in his video more than 30 seconds' worth of footage from rehearsals, showing aerial artistes and giant creatures that glow in the dark, among other performances.

More than 5,000 people have been rehearsing for the opening ceremony since the beginning of the year, according to Mr Wong.

"I think it will be a spectacular show," he said.
