KOTA TINGGI, Malaysia - Most fake cosmetics and sex stimulants sold locally are brought in from China and Indonesia.
"Despite our raids, these groups seem to be active in marketing their products, especially via Facebook," said State Health and Environment exco member Datuk Ayub Rahmat.
He said that in 2013, about RM3.25mil (S$1.27 million) worth of fake medicines and stimulants were seized in the state. Between January and August this year, another RM3.25mil worth of the products were seized.
"These raids will not be effective if consumers still turn to products which are not certified by the Health Ministry," Ayub said after a health seminar at Felda Bukit Besar here yesterday.
On another issue, Ayub said the ministry spent more than RM1.8bil annually to dispense medication at all its hospitals and clinics, compared with only RM500mil in 2001.
