Fan's view: I got to take a penalty in front of the Kop

SINGAPORE - It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Liverpool die-hard fan Joshua Woo, 27, who won a global Facebook contest by Standard Chartered Bank to go to the Reds' home ground of Anfield to watch the Sept 1 clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.

The consulting manager even got to take a penalty kick at the famous Kop end. Here, he recounts his unforgettable fan experience.

What was your feeling upon knowing that you have won this trip to Anfield?

It was an out of the world feeling after receiving the confirmation e-mail that I had won. I shared the joy with all my fellow Liverpool Fans, family members and friends who had supported me. They are the ones who had made me realise: "Dreams do come true if you believe in them."

How was your stay in Liverpool?

I stayed from Aug 28 to Sept 6, and I also went to Chester, London and Paris during the trip. StanChart covered all expenses from Aug 29 to Sept 2, with an additional S$1,000 for spending. Liverpool hired a personal driver to pick up my spouse and I at Manchester Airport.

What were your first thoughts when you woke up on match day?

I pinched myself and shouted out loud in the hotel room, which startled my wife. I still couldn't believe myself - about to watch a big match, Liverpool vs Manchester United!

Moreover, it was my first visit to Liverpool and the pressure was on me, as my Liverpool friends teased me that if the Reds were to lose, then I am a jinx.

Before the match day, I actually went to pay respect to some late former Liverpool managers and players at the Anfield Cemetery. I also prayed for a resounding win. Thankfully, my prayers were heard.
