Fined for confronting hawker with knife

Goh Buck Song, 41, was fined $1,000 yesterday for causing alarm to Mr Chiong Chee San, 39, who had been renovating his outlet in Ang Mo Kio. He also had a charge of mischief, for smashing a glass cup at the stall, taken into consideration.

The incident happened around 5.30pm on Jan 17, outside Ji De Lai Wanton Noodle Stall in Block 338, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

The court heard that Mr Chiong started drilling after he finished selling food that day. Goh, a food seller, scolded him for causing the noise and threw the cup.

Mr Chiong called the police.

Goh returned to his second- floor flat but saw his father heading downstairs, also to confront Mr Chiong about the noise.

Goh heard the two having a heated argument and took the 14cm blade from his kitchen and confronted Mr Chiong. He scolded him for a while before leaving with his father.

Goh could have been jailed for up to six months and fined up to $5,000.
