SINGAPORE - A fire that broke out today afternoon (June 14) at the popular Albert Centre Market and Food Centre, near to the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho temple in Waterloo Street, had the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) evacuate about 30 people from the second level.

SCDF said that it was alerted to the fire at about 4.20pm. It dispatched two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, four support vehicles and an ambulance. Responders arrived at the site within eight minutes, it said.

The fire involved about 20m of the exhaust ducting, or mechanical ventilation ducting, on the second storey.

SCDF officers got the fire under control within 15 minutes, and extinguished the fire in 45 minutes with two water jets.
