Fire breaks out in bedroom of Hougang flat

SINGAPORE - A fire broke out at a HDB unit in Hougang on Friday (July 3). Passersby who witnessed the raging fire visible through a window sent in their clips to The Straits Times and Channel NewsAsia.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the fire started in the bedroom of the ninth-floor unit of Block 699B on Hougang Street 52.

The spokesperson for the SCDF said it received a call at 5.40pm. Fire engines, a Red Rhino, two fire bikes and a support vehicle were dispatched, along with an ambulance.

Officers at the scene put out the fire in 10 minutes. Two occupants of the HDB flat had self-evacuated and no injuries were reported. 

The SCDF said the cause of fire is under investigation.
