Fire breaks out at Lucky Plaza, no injuries reported

SINGAPORE - A fire broke out at Lucky Plaza shopping centre on Friday, Dec 18, according to local media reports.

Thick smoke could be seen outside the shopping centre, according to various social media postings.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the incident on its official Twitter account.

SCDF added that it was alerted at 1.10pm and arrived at the scene within eight minutes. They said the fire was put out with three jets.

There were also no injuries reported.

The Straits Times reported that the fire started in a restaurant's kitchen. The fire also involved ventilation ducts on the first floor of the shopping centre, according to Channel NewsAsia.

Many who were in the vicinity when the fire occurred took to social media to post their own accounts.

This is the latest in a series of incidents that happened along Orchard Road this December.

Earlier this month, a Christmas tree caught fire outside Knightsbridge mall and just last weekend, Orchard Central shopping centre suffered a power outage.
