Firefighters rescue 3 from burning Woodlands flat

SINGAPORE - Firefighters pulled an unconscious elderly man out of a burning flat early today morning, and rescued two other persons standing on a window ledge outside the bedroom window.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to a fire in Woodlands Crescent at 3.18am. Two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, two ambulances and four supporting vehicles were dispatched, it said in a statement.

The SCDF said that the fire was "well alight" in the living room and a study of the sixth floor flat when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters put out the fire within 20 minutes using two water jets.

They found an unconscious elderly Chinese man in a toilet and pulled him out of the burning unit. Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man and continued to do so while en-route to hospital.

The SCDF said firefighters also rescued an elderly woman and a man in his 20s standing on a window ledge outside one of the bedrooms.

About 150 residents were evacuated from the affected block, it said in the statement.
