Flat on fire: Man found dead in the unit

SINGAPORE - A man was found dead in a Marine Crescent flat that was on fire this morning.

According to a statement from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they were alerted to the fire at 9.30am, and arrived at the flat within 3 minutes.

After forcing entry into the unit, they found that the fire was raging inside, involving the living room and two bedrooms.

The flat, located at the 10th floor of Block 27, was reportedly heavily smoked logged.

After the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes of the SCDF's arrival, they found the body of a man in the unit. Paramedics later declared him dead.

According to a report by The Straits Times, the man is believed to be blind and living at the unit with his wife.

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and MP for Marine Parade GRC was at the scene together with grassroot leaders to assist affected residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
