Free whoppers for soldiers

SINGAPORE - Men in uniform, listen up: Fast-food chain Burger King will be giving away 1,000 burgers to Singapore soldiers next Friday.

From 1.30pm at the chain's White Sands outlet in Pasir Ris, the first 1,000 soldiers to visit the eatery in their No. 4 uniforms will receive one free Whopper.

Burger King Singapore's general manager, Mr Wong Shyang Jiuu, said: "We know that our soldiers, especially the recruits, work and train extremely hard. As such, they deserve a fulfilling meal that they truly love.

"We wanted to show our appreciation." This is the chain's latest local initiative, after relaunching the Rendang Burger earlier this year and introducing the BK PepperKing burgers this month.

It follows the announcement of Ah Boys To Men's Tosh Zhang and Wang Wei Liang as Burger King's brand ambassadors last month.

Soldiers who receive the Whoppers will be able to complete their meals with a can of Coke Zero and a pack of medium fries at a special price of $2, down from the usual price of $4.90.

The 1,001st soldier onwards will be able to purchase a Whopper at half price (U.P. $5.95) on that day.
