Lau Pa Sat was cordoned off for two hours yesterday morning, after a gas leak was reported.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call at 10.24am and sent a fire engine and a red rhino to the food centre. The leak was traced to an underground gas pipe on Boon Tat Street.
SP PowerGrid said excavation work in the area had damaged a pipe. It was being repaired and gas supply to the area was not affected.
Kopitiam, which manages Lau Pa Sat, said business was suspended as a precaution till around 12.30pm. A part of Boon Tat Street, which had also been cordoned off, re-opened at noon.
