Germans who vandalised MRT train in Bishan depot get 9 months jail, 3 strokes each

SINGAPORE - Two German citizens who vandalised an SMRT train at Bishan Depot on November 8 last year have been sentenced to nine months' jail and three strokes of the cane each. They pleaded guilty to charges on Thursday. 

Andreas Von Knorre, 22, and Elton Hinz, 21, have been charged with entering Bishan SMRT depot, a protected place, without authorisation three times in the wee hours of Nov 6, 7 and 8 last year, The Straits Times reported.

They were arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport last year.

According to the report, the pair had bought 12 cans of spray paint from Art Friend in Clementi and entered the premises via a drainage system. SMRT suffered damage of about $13,650 from the incident.

If found guility of vandalism, they may be fined up to $2,000 or three years' jail plus three to eight strokes of the cane.

For entering a protected place, they could be fined up to $1,000 and/or jailed for up to two years on each charge.
