Girl, 12, seriously injured after accident at Yio Chu Kang

A 12-year-old girl sustained serious head injuries after she was hit by a car along Yio Chu Kang Road on Monday afternoon.

Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that Alenna New, a pupil from Anderson Primary School, was crossing the road at around 4pm when the car struck her.

The girl was thrown a few metres away from the impact and lost consciousness at the scene.

She was sent to KK Women's and Children's Hospital for treatment.

The girl had been returning to her home at the nearby condominium The Calrose.

An eyewitness Mr Fu told Wanbao that the girl hesitated while crossing the road and the car could not avoid her in time.

Mr Fu notified her family of the accident after finding her address and phone number among her belongings.

New's grandmother told Wanbao that the girl is no longer in a critical condition, but suffers from serious head injuries.

The police said that investigations are ongoing.
