He would greet the teenager whenever he spotted her in the neighbourhood.
The student, who was then 15 years old, always ignored Samir Singh Aulakh.
Then, one day, she responded to the hulking man's greeting and that led to him tailing her to a taxi and outraging her modesty.
The court heard that the ordeal left her traumatised and she now avoids big-sized men.
Singh, 34, a call operator at a hotel, was jailed for four weeks yesterday after pleading guilty to one count of molestation. His 26-year-old wife is pregnant with their first child.
The court heard that his victim had left her home in southern Singapore at around 7.45am on Aug 30, 2013, to go to school.
She was walking alone on a sheltered pathway when he approached her from behind and asked her: "How are you?"
Though she used to ignore him, she decided to acknowledge him that morning and replied: "I'm okay."
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Gabriel Choong said Singh asked her where she was going and the unsuspecting teenager said that she was taking a taxi to school.
"When (Singh) heard this, he stated that he would follow the victim in the taxi as he was going to a place near her school," said DPP Choong.
When the girl flagged down a taxi and sat in the rear, Singh also got in and sat on her left.
While inside the taxi, he placed his right arm over her shoulder and pulled her closer. He then asked her to kiss him on the lips and persisted even when she refused.
Afraid, the girl finally relented and agreed to kiss him on the cheek. But just as she was about to do so, he turned his head and she planted a kiss on his lips instead.
Soon afterwards, he kissed her again on the lips even though she did not allow him to do it. He also touched the girl's left knee.
Court papers did not mention if the taxi driver was aware of her ordeal.
After they alighted at their destination, Singh warned his victim not to tell anyone about the incident.
But she burst into tears in school and told two of her classmates, who then contacted her parents.
Singh was arrested after the girl lodged a police report at 12.44am the next day.
In mitigation, Singh's lawyer, Mr S. Balamurugan said his client regretted his actions and did not touch the girl's private parts.
But DPP Choong stressed that the offence took place within the confines of a taxi.
For outraging the girl's modesty, Singh could have been jailed up to two years, fined and/or caned.
