SINGAPORE - Dogs, birds, hamsters and cats had a big day out at a pets carnival at Sembawang Park yesterday, where a new site for dogs to run off leash was launched.

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan, a Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC, launched the 2,700 sq m dog run at the park. It is the sixth dog run in Singapore and the fenced-off area is the size of 21/2 basketball courts.

In a blog post on Friday, Mr Khaw urged pet owners to clean up after their dogs, leash them when they are outside the dog run, and be mindful when children or babies get too close to the dogs.

"While we have fun with our dogs, we must be considerate towards other park visitors," he said. "Some may be fearful of animals."
