Group of friends remanded over failed kidnap attempt

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - A group of friends are under police remand after a failed kidnap attempt at Genting Highlands.

A witness lodged a police report at around 6.45am yesterday after spotting two of the suspects, a man and a woman, driving in an allegedly stolen Honda City at the First World Hotel in Genting Highlands.

When approached by police, the couple sped away in the vehicle and a car chase ensued.

The driver lost control of the car, causing it to flip onto its side in Gohtong Jaya.

While the suspects were being arrested, two men and a woman arrived in a Proton Perdana, claiming to know the owner of the Honda City.

Police brought all five to the Bentong district police station for questioning.

It was then that an officer heard a muffled sound coming from the Proton Perdana's boot and found a man inside.

The man claimed that he and a female friend were kidnapped at the hotel's carpark.
