SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Finance is reminding Singaporeans who are eligible for the GST Voucher but have yet to sign up to do so by Dec 31, 2014.
Eligible Singaporeans were first asked to do so in a letter given out earlier this year in July. In addition, reminder letters will also be sent out before Nov 19.
Introduced in Budget 2012, the GST Voucher is a form of aid for lower- and middle-income households. The Government has distributed some $647 million through this programme.
It is given in three components - Cash, Medisave and U-Save. There is no need to sign up for U-Save as it is an automatic benefit for the household.
The GST Voucher - Cash is an allowance to lower-income and retiree households, granted every August; the GST Voucher - Medisave provides complimentary top-ups for the CPF Medisave accounts of Singaporeans aged 65 and above; and the GST Voucher - U-Save provides rebates for utilities bills for HDB households.
More information can be found at www.gstvoucher.gov.sg. Singaporeans can also call 1800-2222-888 for details on the GST Voucher - Cash and Medisave, and 6671-7117 for information on the GST Voucher - U-Save.
