BUKIT KAYU HITAM - A 29-year-old man was arrested for trying to smuggle two pistols into the country at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here.
He was stopped by a General Operations Force (GOF) team after he was seen acting suspiciously while riding his motorcycle into the complex at 2.50pm on Friday.
Several GOF personnel searched him and found the two pistols and 72 rounds of ammunition in his bag. He was arrested and taken to the Bukit Kayu Hitam police station for questioning.
The man, who worked as a pub waiter, has since been remanded for investigations.
He claimed to have bought the firearms for RM9,000 (S$3,200) from a Thai man in a border town.
Kedah CID Chief ACP Mohd Nashir Ya when contacted yesterday declined to comment beyond saying that the state police chief would be holding a press conference on the matter.
