SINGAPORE - Hundreds of residents gathered on the field in Engku Aman Road to join in a countdown and cheer as Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong launched the event marking the start of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and prayer beginning tomorrow.

There will be exciting cultural performances by Geylang Serai Malay Activity Executive Committee's Malay Cultural Interest Groups and a cultural dance showcase by Kembangan-Chai Chee Malay Activity Executive Committee's Interest Group - I.N.E.S.Tari.

Qasidah

4 July 2014, Friday (8pm - 9.30pm)

Learn more about the religious significance of the Hari Raya celebrations through the Qasidah, a form of Perso-Arabic lyric poetry.

Geylang Serai Habuan and Iftar for Needy residents

5 July 2014, Saturday (8pm - 9.30pm)

Underprivileged families will be receiving a token sum and groceries as we spread the dynamic Gotong-royong spirit. Join us as we break-fast together!

Dikir Barat

12 July 2014, Saturday (8pm - 9.30pm)

Come and watch a Dikir Barat performance by the Rajawali Dikir Barat group and take part in the following activities:

-Arabic-Jawi Calligraphy showcase

-Display and demonstration of traditional Malay games, traditional Malay musical instruments and traditional Malay Handicrafts for Weddings

Cultural Discovery Race
