Heightened security for areas around Padang during NDP 2015

SINGAPORE - The National Day Parade (NDP) 2015 has been declared as a 'Special Event' under the Public Order Act, said police in a statement on Saturday.

Under this Act, the Padang and the areas surrounding Marina Bay where activities related to the NDP will take place, have been designated as a 'Special Event Area'.

Within this area, a special zone has been designated for heightened security checks.

Police said that this is to ensure public safety and security.

Security restrictions will take effect on Aug 9 from 12.01am to 11.59pm.

Members of the public within the Special Event Area are prohibited from bringing flares or any pyrotechnic device intended for signalling, warning or similar purposes.

Flammable material, explosives, arms, aerosol paint containers or any item capable of attaching a person or object are prohibited.

Other prohibited items include loud hailers, flags or banners larger than one metre, any broadcast equipment or remotely piloted aircraft systems.

Police have the powers to search and conduct checks for such items within the Special Event Area. Prohibited items will be seized and investigations will be conducted.

It is also an offence to fly an unmanned aircraft into or within the Special Event Area without a valid permit.

Organisers of all public asemblies and processions within the Special Event Area - Speakers' Corner in Hong Lim Park falls within this zone - must apply for permits.
