Hello Kitty Run website overwhelmed

The Hello Kitty Run Singapore website was overwhelmed after online registration opened at noon yesterday. Registration was temporarily suspended.

The organiser said on Facebook: "Due to the high flow of traffic and registrations coming in, we will be closing the site and sorting out the links. Registration will resume at 2pm." Around 4pm, the organiser said it was "accepting traffic in blocks of 200" due to high traffic volume.

Some people complained on Facebook that they had problems registering.

The 5km run will be held on Nov 1 at Sentosa to mark Hello Kitty's 40th birthday.

Participants get an exclusive runner's T-shirt and a special-edition commemorative Hello Kitty plush toy.

From now until Sept 14, the registration fee is $70. From Sept 15 to 21, it will be $75.

All 15,000 pre-registration slots were snapped up within 24 hours last month.
